Watch Your Back.

The last couple of days have reiterated the fact that I have taken too many things for granted in life. Family members, kinship and ... your back.

I landed myself in A&E 3 days ago after waking up with an acute pain in my back and my left body numb. Tests concluded that it was kidney stones but x-ray showed otherwise. Doctor concluded it was muscle strain but that does not explain the blood. So yup ... here I am left with medication to treat the symptoms, a week-long appointment to see an urologist and a multiple calls to friends to find out more about orthopedic surgeons and chiropractors.

It's 5am now and I can't sleep lying down because my back hurts. I went to bed 2 hours earlier and phoned my sister at 4am in tears to help me out of the bed so that I can get some water and muscle relaxant. This morning, I struggled for 35 minutes before I called my mum to help me out of bed.

A long weekend finally ... all for the very wrong reasons.

So please, people ... take my advice, take care of your back and kidney. Do the right things. Drink plenty of water. Don't hold your bladder for more than 4 hours. Pee at least 5 times a day. Watch your posture. Never lie on your stomache to read or use your laptop for prolonged periods. Don't slouch. Bend your knees when picking up heavy things.

Trust me, there is no difference between this and labour contractions, except that you know that the pain for the latter will stop once the baby is out. The former, will stalk you for life.

PS: I never thought I would say this but I am extremely grateful that my sister woke up to help me out of bed and for offering me an extra pillow to prop myself up. Despite our (major) differences, blood is thicker than water. When all else fail you, the family is the only one you can turn to for unconditional love.
