Ref - Dangerous Display Counters at XXX XXX Jewellery in Suntec City

Date: Saturday, 22 April 2006
Time: 8:45pm - 9pm
Location: XXX XXX Jewellery at Suntec City

Dear Sir,

This complaint is about the dangerous showcases that line the left of the walls of the Suntec branch of XXX XXX Jewellery.

My friends were huddled at the back of the store to look at wedding bands while my daughter and I accompanied them on this trip. We decided to re-enter the store when my daughter tried to swerve from a seated couple, turning into a sharp corner of the showcase, leaving a laceration on the left of her head just above her ear. That, I must highlight is only centimetres from her eye.

Another point to note, would be the fact that no salesperson in the store witnessed the event and the wails of a crying child weren't enough to make anyone stop in their tracks. I'm sure this can be verified by the many CCTVs installed in the store.

I will be glad to supply pictures I have taken of the store, to show the precarious height of the showcases in relation to the height of children and perhaps even, short adults.

Trained as a designer myself, I understand that the target audience of a jewelry store is by no means anyone shorter than 1.2m. However, safety standards must be complied as it is a store accessible by the public as well. XXX XXX Jewellery at Suntec City is by no means, anywhere near safe at this point in time.

I am grateful that my daughter got to keep her sight but I certainly hope that changes can be made so that other children can leave the store uninjured, with their sight intact as well.

Hope to hear from you soon. I may be contacted at the email above or at +65 XXXXXXXX.

Regards
Abigael Tay

PS: For those who think that I should have consoled Shea instead of taking pictures .. Yes, I have already done that. She was inconsolable for 15 minutes. I had my camera readily in hand as I was taking pictures of the to-be-wed couple.

PPS: I also know that honestly, children are not the target demographics but in that case, short people and children should be barred from the store then? The point is that it is simply bad design. That just makes inferior designers potential murderers and people who buy such designs, potential accomplices.

i agree that i was a bit turned off when the lady that you mentioned what happened too just smiled and acted BLUR! so annoying.
